The Reading Social Network: How to Build Virtual Reading Communities to Acknowledge, Ecncourage and Celebrate Reading LIMITED

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

In a world overflowing with movies, television, social networks, video games, and multimedia, the art of reading is being crowded out our discretionary time. In this presentation, discover how to use technology to create a virtual reading community that honors, encourages, and celebrates books. Using Amazon’s Shelfari as a platform, the presenter will share the virtual reading community he has built, and help you to create your own virtual reading community. With this platform, teachers and students will be able to track, share, review, and build their digital bookshelves. If you want to build excitement around reading in your classrooms, especially in Grades 6 through 12, this is the session for you.

Andrew O'Riordan

Dean of Students, Maui Preparatory Academy
Aloha. My name is Andrew O'Riordan and I've been an educator in Hawai'i for a decade. I've worked on Oahu, the Big Isle, and Maui, in public and private schools, and I've also taught internationally. I'm currently fascinated by the deliberate integration of technology into "blended" classrooms. Finding the sweet spot on the spectrum between the "sage on stage" and the "guide on the side" is my continuing quest.
